Studio Recording Equipment

Recording equipment is all about capturing the best possible sound. When you put in many hours on a musical instument, you want to see those efforts preserved in a recording as they were intended.

You start with the most important part of the audio chain, and that's the microphone. To record the trumpet properly you need a microphone that can handle the sound pressure levels that are output by the trumpet, yet translate it into a pleasing and musical sound.

You will want an excellent sounding pair of headphones, but that's not the whole story about selecting headphones for a trumpet player.

Here are some tips for using these headphones for trumpet players.

Very good speakers for use with your computer that don't take up much space.

High-quality audio performance, with clear sound at any volume. Use the auxiliary input to connect the speakers to another audio source such as your iPhone or iPad. Volume control/headphone jack on front of right speaker.

The Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite2 for MAC USB is not just another Mac USB keyboard. The keys are normal size, but the footprint of the keyboard is much smaller than traditional keyboards, allowing you to free up more workspace in your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) environment. The keyboard is also small enough to fit into a backpack to use with your laptop. Dimensions are: 6.06 x 12.83 x 2.05 in.

The action on the keyboards is very good and durable. If you are wondering where the function keys are, they are accessible using the top numbers row when you press the function key on the lower left labeled "Fn". This is a good space-saving design if you don't use function keys very often on the Mac.

This is a great book by Rod Gervais. Rod details how to design the acoustics for a studio. He also has design instructions for building your own acoustic panels. Instead of using fiberglass for insulation, you can use UltraTouch® which is made of shredded denim cotton. A much nicer material to handle and breathe in than fiberglass.
